MATARAM, W
ATARAM, W. Nusa Tenggara: Six villages in two districts in West Lombok and Central Lombok regencies were pitch black over the weekend when flooding knocked out four microhydropower plants on Lombok.
"We checked them out and found the power plants were seriously damaged after last week's flooding.need four months to repair the power plants, if we have the funds," head of the province's Mining, Energy and Mineral Resources agency Heriyadi Rahmat told The Jakarta Post in Mataram on Monday.
Rahmat said the flood damaged the plants' buildings and water reservoirs which have the capacity to generate 25 kilowatts, 30 KW, 34 KW and 100 KW. Three of the plants are located in Sedau village, Narmada district, West Lombok, while the fourth is in Lantan village, Batukliang district, Central Lombok.
Rahmat estimated his agency would need Rp 3.2 billion (about US$290,909) to repair the power plants which had been supplying electricity to 1,500 households in the two districts. -- JP
