MATARAM, W. Nusa Tenggara: Mataram District Court tried on Thursday former West Nusa Tenggara Governor HL Serinata for his alleged involvement in a corruption case worth more than Rp 13 billion (US$1.1 million).
Prosecutor Fery Ekawirya said Serinata was involved in the graft case when he was the province’s legislative council speaker in 2003.
Ferry said Serinata, who was also in the provincial chapter of the Golkar Party, illegally allocated Rp 1.9 billion for the councilors’ welfare and Rp 11.34 billion for the councilors’ support fund.
“The funds were directly distributed to councilors in cash as additional income,” the prosecutor told the trial.
Serinata, who has been held at a city detention center since last month, rejected the indictment through his lawyers but let the trial continue.
“On behalf of our client, we reject all the content of the indictment. But we allow the trial to continue to prove the charges,” Serinata’s lawyer Harnaya said in the trial. — JP
