National Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief Syamsir Siregar confirmed Sunday that the situation in Ambon was under control and security had been restored after a brawl occurred on Saturday that had claimed one life and injured six.

"It is hoped that the issue will be immediately resolved," Siregar said, as quoted by Antara news.

According to Siregar, the country is overall secure despite several conventional hot-spots in the region.

"We will continue to enhance our surveillance and observation of these areas, and will continue to cooperate and coordinate with the police and military," he said.

Meanwhile, Antara previously reported that a brawl between residents of Pelauw village and Kailolo village in Central Maluku erupted Saturday afternoon.

After security personnel failed to contain the incident, the conflict then spilled over to Liang village, located outside of Ambon, and led to the death of Peleuw resident, Yosa Latuamary.
