JAKARTA: The Jakarta chapter of the Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda) agreed Tuesday to lower fees they collect from drivers to allow the latter to cut fares.

"All transport owners will reduce the fee they collect from drivers by 20 percent," Organda Jakarta secretary TR Panjaitan said.

"That means, if a driver pays Rp 200,000 each day to his bus owner, he now only needs to pay Rp 160,000. All owners are obliged to do this so that their drivers can earn slightly bigger margins," he said.

Organda also promised that they would abide by the gubernatorial regulation letter requiring them to slash bus fares by Rp 500.

He requested the city transportation agency help disperse the information to drivers in the field.

For any violation of the policy, the public can file complaints to Organda Jakarta hotlines: (021) 43900464 and facsimile (021) 4203357. - JP
