MEDAN, N. Sumatra: Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan is treating a baby with two heads.

The hospital, which accepted the baby on Sunday from the couple Sutiono and Marwati, residents of Juluk village, East Aceh regency in neighboring Aceh province, has not yet decided whether to conduct a separation surgery or not.

"It's difficult because there is only one body," hospital director Azwan Hakmi Lubis said..

"We can't sacrifice one head for another."

He said the baby was actually a twin which was medically called persopagus fisiovalid.

Azwan said the baby, who was temporarily called Marwati 1 and Marwati 2, has two lungs, two legs, one abdomen, one genital and anus, two hearts and two backbones.

"But the hearts and the backbones are linked to each other," he said.

He said the shape of the heads and the inside part of its stomach were normal. - JP
