Police have once again declared former West Nusa Tenggara deputy governor Thamrin Reyes a suspect in a corruption case involving the procurement of land, the Antara news agency reported Monday.
West Nusa Tenggara Police Chief of Detective Sr. Comr. William Lameng said Monday that police had summoned Thamrin Reyes for questioning.
William said that the police uncovered new evidence that implicates Thamrin Reyes in the marking-up of the price of plots of land in Sumbawa allocated for a housing complex for local legislative councilors. The procurement cost the state Rp 175 million (US$16,000).
In 2007, West Nusa Tenggara Police declared Thamrin Reyes, together with two other officials, suspects in the mark-up of the same plot, but the case against Reyes was soon dropped.
Reyes' lawyer Umaya said his client would not attend the questioning on Monday because the letter was sent through him and not directly to Reyes. But he assured that Reyes would report for questioning sometime this week.
