Unfortunately, within weeks of its implementation, the new NPWP (taxpayers) card is already providing grounds for graft at the tax office. A friend of mine was told that in addition to the card, she also required a letter of clarification (SKT).
This was in contradiction to the information available at the airport which said only an NPWP and a family card were required. She was told this letter would require a week to process, but could be delivered immediately for a Rp 100,000 ($US9) payment.
Hearing about this, my employer contacted another branch of the tax office which denied that a letter of clarification was required. When my employer put my form in for processing, they ridiculously declared that my signature was a fake, despite it being identical to the one in my passport. They required an official letter with a "materai" stamp attached declaring my signature was not a fake. Once again, the problem could disappear for a payment.
