A report submitted to the Corruption Eradication Commission by  Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) has alleged around Rp 21.3 billion (US$1.8 million) was embezzled from the Supreme Court budget between 2006 and 2007.

“The embezzlement took place during the term of then chief justice Bagir Manan,” Emerson Yuntho from ICW told a conference Tuesday.

Quoting from Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) reports from 2006 and 2007, ICW said the funds were embezzled in a number of ways, including fabricated spending on maintenance of the court’s information system, which was falsely valued at more than Rp 800 million.

“The court also did not report income taxes from case settlement fees in 2004-2006 worth Rp 10.2 billion,” he said.

In 2006, the BPK also discovered fabricated travel allowances for 13 Supreme Court officials worth almost Rp 100 million.
