AKARTA: The city administration started implementing its new on-street parking policy along several roads Wednesday.
Drivers who park their cars on Jl. Pecenongan or Jl. Juanda in Central Jakarta, Jl. Boulevard Raya in North Jakarta or Jl. Raden Patah in South Jakarta are eligible for one free day of parking after they present five ticket stubs from parking on the same street.
Parking attendants, however, have not welcomed the policy. They said there were no problems with the old system.
"What is the incentive for?" Yani, an attendant at Jl. Juanda, told kompas.com.
"Parking customers never complain, and the money I pay my boss each day always meets the target."
Administration officials suspect that a considerable amount of revenue from parking has not been submitted to the city.
Many motorists pay parking attendants directly without asking for a receipt.
Through the incentive, the administration expects drivers to ask for receipts.
