JAKARTA: National Olympic Council chairwoman Rita Subowo said Wednesday that Indonesia had proposed to host in Jakarta the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games.
Indonesia has joined five other International Olympic Council member countries - China, Mexico, Morocco, Poland and Turkey - in bidding to host the 2014 games, according to the IOC's website, www.olympic.org.
The Summer Youth Games will debut in Singapore in 2010.
Rita said that she had received two calls from an IOC official inviting Indonesia to bid. "Shortly after I received the second call, I passed on the news to the sport ministry.
"The sport ministry relayed the message to the President, who then ordered the Coordinating Ministry for People's Welfare to respond to the invitation." - JP
