Indian envoy meets TNI chief

Indonesian Military (TNI) chief Gen. Djoko Santoso met in Jakarta on Monday with Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Biren Nanda for talks aimed at enhancing ties between two of the world’s largest democracies.

Nanda said bilateral defense cooperation between the two countries had been on the rise since President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s visit to India in 2005.

The cooperation materialized in the Navy education and training program to boost security in the maritime borders of the two nations.

India has offered to provide maintenance services of Indonesian Sukhoi jetfighters and training for Air Force technicians.
