JAKARTA: Pop-rockers Ungu astonished almost 1,000 people during the closing ceremony of the Syariah Trade Show at the Jakarta Convention Center on Sunday night.

Opening the concert with their hit “Doa yang Terlupakan” (The Forgotten Prayer), the band mesmerized the audience, who spontaneously turned into a mass choir.

The band continued to hypnotize the crowd throughout the concert playing hits including “Andai ku tahu” (If I Know), “Tercipta Untukmu” (Created for You), “Kekasih Gelapku” (My other women) and “Dengan Nafasmu” (With your breath).

Wearing a violet long sleeve shirt, vocalist Pasha invited the crowd to sing with him in the 11 songs they presented.

During the concert, which closed with the band’s first hit “Bayang Semu” (Fake Shadow), Pasha also announced that they will release a new album in March.

“This is not a promotion but hopefully, we will launch new album next month,” Pasha said from the stage as quoted by Antara.

The group was formed in1996 and has released four pop-rock albums and three religiously themed albums.

They also appear on several compilation albums and have provided the soundtrack for several TV soap operas and films. Two of their hits, “Tercipta Untukmu” and “Andai Kutahu,” appeared on the soundtrack of the blockbuster film Ayat-Ayat Cinta (Verses of Love). —  JP
