The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has declared a former official of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) a suspect in the misuse of funds in the procurement of training equipment at the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry.

KPK deputy chairman Chandra said Friday that the investigators have named the former auditor, Bagindo Quirino, as a suspect and are charging him under several articles of the 1999 corruption law.

"We'll attempt to charge him under article 12 point e, 12 point a, 5 point 2 and 11 on extortion and gratitudes," he told journalists.

During previous court sessions of the case, convicted top ministry official Taswin Zein admitted he had given Rp 650 million to Bagindo to change the BPK audit on the project report.

Taswin has been sentenced to four years prison for inflating the price of the project and directly appointing PT Gita Vidya Utama as the sole provider of training center equipment, used in 19 cities across the archipelago.

The KPK says the state has suffered Rp 13. 6 billion in losses due to the case. (ewd)
