Four prisoners escaped from Ciracas Police Detention Centre of East Jakarta on Friday afternoon after successfully taking advantage of security officers who failed to guard the prisoners ahead of Friday prayers.

According to kompas.com, the prisoners allegedly left the building after walking through its unlocked doors and gates.

Other prisoners shouted when the four convicts were leaving the centre but none of the officers responded.

The four prisoners were previously convicted of robbing houses and stealing motorcycles.

On Friday morning, the police questioned one of the prisoners before returning him to his cell.

East Jakarta Police Chief Commissioner Hasanuddin said he admitted the officers neglected their duty to guard the prisoners at all times.

“We are questioning six officers to gather information on the incident,” he said. (ewd)
