Although I am not a parent, from my own observations and the stories I hear from friends and colleagues, I know parenting is one of the most demanding jobs around. And a thankless one, too; it’s all too easy to blame the parents when something is amiss with their youngsters.

This month’s edition focuses on the lives of children and young people, with our centerpiece article examining the issue of raising children with the emotional support and care they need. It’s a difficult and delicate task, and especially with both parents juggling work responsibilities.

We also get a sneak peek at starry-eyed talents in the entertainment and sports world, and hear from young Indonesians who are going it alone in pursuing their dreams.

Our cover, of course, is Anggun C. Sasmi, who has gained international acclaim for her talent and enduring respect here at home. Anggun had the courage of her convictions to venture abroad at the age of 20. Today, based in Paris and the mother of a toddler, she says parenting has enriched her life. Read more about her in our 20/20 column.
