2,444 security personnel to secure president’s visit to Aceh

A combined total of 2,444 security personnel from the army and the national police will be deployed for a two day-visit of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to Nangroe Aceh Darussalam Province, which will start on Monday.

The Iskandar Muda Regional Military Commander, Maj. Gen. Soenarko, told reporters in Aceh on Saturday that 1,255 troops from the army, 125 officers from the air force, 30 officers from the navy and 844 police officers would make up the force.

He also added that the president and his associates would be guarded by 45 top personnel of the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres).

On Monday the president is expected to inaugurate post-tsunami reconstruction projects funded by Aceh-Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR) and the central government.

The projects include the Tsunami Museum, the “Thanks To The World” Park in Blang Padang, the new Ulee-Lheue Port and the Keuliling Dam in Aceh Besar.

The president is also expected to hold talks with local citizens at the Hermes Palace Hotel on Tuesday. (and)
