BOGOR: Almost 250 scouts from 15 elementary schools in the city took part in a campaign to raise awareness about bird flu at the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) on Saturday.
In the event, IPB veterinary students taught the scouts how to wash their hands properly before meals and how to choose safe-to-eat eggs and chicken.
IPB rector Herri Suhardiyanto said that the event aimed to raise understanding of bird flu and encourage them to live a healthy lifestyle in order to avoid infection.
"We invited scouts to join this activity because we think the organization can help disseminate information about the disease effectively," Herri said.
He said that IPB would also conduct the bird flu campaign with residents around the campus. Sri Murtini, a lecturer at the faculty, added that the university would hold a similar event on Feb. 28 involving scouts from 20 schools across Bogor. -JP
