The East Java administration has provided almost Rp 9 billion (US$750,000) in new houses to 174 families in Situdondo regency, after floods swept their homes away earlier this month, according to tempointeraktif.com.

Situbondo Deputy Regent Suroso symbolically handed over a house key to one of the victims on Tuesday in the regency’s new housing complex. Suroso said that the administration had taken funds from the province’s regional budget in 2008 to pay for the houses.

“We'll allocate more money in the 2009 budget to provide new houses with electricity and clean water,” he said.

Resident Imam Bahri said that he had yet to move in to the new home as there was no electricity or water supply.

“We expect that the administration will provide us those basic needs soon,” he said.

On Feb. 8, heavy flood submerged houses in Sumberkolak and Seliwung villages, forcing some residents to live on the banks of the Sampean River. (ewd)

If this is true, this is amazing. The fact that an administration acted so swift in taking care of its citizens. The administration that handles the Lapindo area should take note on this considering that the Lapindo mudflow happened years ago and yet due to the power of the shareholders not wanting to spend a dime on behalf of those they have hurt nothing has happened.

Even the police will drop that case. Sad just sad on that case.
