SURABAYA: In order to show supports for the development of Madura Island, the Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS) will provide free seats for 20 talented students from the island in the 2009-2010 academic year.
Assistant to ITS rector on academic affairs Arif Djunaidi said here recently that the institute would ask senior high schools in Madura to select 20 best students and send them to take five study programs with scholarships from the institute.
"There will be no need for them to undergo an admissions test and they will receive fellowships until they complete their studies in the hope that they will return to their hometowns to develop the island," he said, adding a scholarship recipient would get Rp 800,000 (US$72.72) monthly for three years.
Arif said the fellowship was provided from foreign financial aids and from the Education Ministry and it was aimed at anticipating the rapid development on the island. - JP
