Pontianak District Court has sentenced free defendant Jumiati binti Kamtono who stood trial for illegally selling three under-aged children from the city to Serawak of Malaysia in 2007, state news agency Antara reports.

Presiding Judge Subaryanto said Wednesday that the court had found her not guilty in the human trafficking case and did not violate the 2004 law on the placement and protection of Indonesian workers in overseas.

Upon the verdict, head of Pontianak Prosecutors Office Esly Demas said that the prosecutors would file for an appeal against the decision.

All families of the victims disrupted the court session and expressed their disappointment over the judge decision.

Anisa, one of the defendants on the same case, said that she was disagreed with the verdict, while comparing to what she had got due to her role as the distributor of the children.

“This is unfair. They sentenced me to two and a half years of jail because of my role in supplying the children, but who can they freed her from the case,” she said.

Previously, the prosecutors demanded Jumiati to serve six years in jail and Rp 2 billion (US$ 166,666) in fine due to the case. (ewd)
