Local police in Bantul regency, Yogyakarta, have named two suspects in an incident in which rocket launching materials exploded at a house Monday, Antara news agency has reported.
Bantul Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Stepen M. Napiun said the house' owner Sayono and his son Adri Kurniawan, both engineers, were charged with negligence that caused injuries.
“They're facing a maximum of two years in jail if they're found guilty,” he said.
Stepen, however, declined to confirm whether the suspects were working under the Defense Ministry to find alternatives for weapon ammunition.
“We're still getting information. We are still investigating whether the two committed any violation by owning the explosives,” he said.
The huge explosion, which occurred at the house in Panggungharjo village, Sewon district, severely wounded the housemaid, Waginem, 62, who was pounding the material, and Suyono's 32-year-old daughter Utami.
As reported previously, Sayono and his son are contractors for Gadjah Mada University and the Indonesian Navy tasked with developing a rocket project. (dre)
