JAKARTA: East Jakarta municipality said Sunday it would intensify its campaign to promote tuberculosis (TB) medication in a bid to help reduce the number of TB cases in the area.
East Jakarta health office head Paripurna Harimuda said that the campaign was necessary because the spread of the disease was linked to poverty and lack of information.
The office provided short-term treatment for 2,217 patients last year, down from 3,299 in 2007. TB treatment is free of charge at public hospitals and public health clinic, he said. -JP
