Former West Java governor Danny Setiawan has appeared on trial for his alleged role in a graft case involving the procurement of fire engines which caused losses of up to Rp 50 billion (US$ 4.1 million) in 2003 and 2004.

According to a report from kompas.com, prosecutor KMS Roni was reading out the indictments at the Corruption Court during the Monday session.

The court will try Danny along with several other suspects in the same case: Former provincial logistics bureau chairman Wahyu Kurnia and former provincial program director Ijudin Budiana.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) first announced Danny was a suspect in the case on July 21 last year, and detained him at the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta. (ewd)
