The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested National
Mandate Party (PAN) lawmaker Abdul Hadi Jamal and a Transportation Ministry
official, Darmawati, for alleged bribery.
The suspects had been caught red-handed
exchanging US$80,000 and Rp 54 million (around $5,000) on Jl. Jenderal Sudirman
in the Karet area of Jakarta,
at around 10:00 p.m. on Monday, KPK deputy chairman Mochamad Jasin said on Tuesday.
Separately, the anti-graft body also arrested businessman Hontjo Kurniawan who
is a commissioner of PT Kurnia Jaya Wira Bakti, in Surabaya.
Jasin said the money handed over by Darmawati - a member of the administrative
staff of the Sea Transportation Directorate General of the Transportation Ministry
- had come from Hontjo.
During preliminary investigations, Abdul Hadi admitted to have received Rp 1
billion from Hontjo last Friday, Jasin said.
"The money was allegedly paid so that the businessman would be appointed in a ministerial
project," he said.
Abdul Hadi is a member of the House of Representatives' Commission V overseeing
