National Mandate Party (PAN) lawmaker Abdul Hadi Djamal, a
Transportation Ministry official and a Surabaya-based businessman were named as
suspects by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Tuesday.
"The three have been named as suspects and will be arrested after questioning [today],"
said KPK chairman Antasari Azhar, as quoted by Antara news agency on Tuesday.
The KPK arrested Abdul and Darmawati, an official of the Sea Transportation
Directorate of the Transportation Ministry, in Jakarta on Monday night after
Abdul was caught red-handed receiving an alleged bribe worth US$80,000 and Rp
54 million (around $5,000) from Darmawati.
After arresting the pair, the KPK later arrested businessman Hontjo Kurniawan, a
commissioner of PT Kurnia Jaya Wira Bakti, in Surabaya.
Earlier, during questioning on Tuesday, Abdul had admitted that the money given
by Darmawati, had come from Hontjo. Abdul also said he had received Rp 1
billion from Hontjo last Friday.
KPK alleged that this money was a bribe relating to the ministry's pier and sea
port construction projects in the eastern part of Indonesia. (dre)
