The Indonesian government has offered some cooperation to Iran businessmen in various kinds of fields, including culture, tourism, social and economy, the Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik has said.

During the opening of “Iran Cultural Week” at National Museum Tuesday, Jero said that  the event was part of the efforts from both countries to tighten their cultural relationships.

“President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has visited Iran, and it was reciprocated by his Iranian counterpart Ahmadinejad later. Now is the time for me at ministerial level to improve our cooperative relations in various fields,” he said as quoted by state news agency Antara.

Iranian presidential adviser and chairman of the Organization of Iranian Islamic Cultural Relations Dr Mehdi Mostafavi said that arts and cultural cooperation was an instrument to unite the two countries in the economic and educational fields.

Jero said he was expecting the relationship could get closer with the opening of direct air service serving the Jakarta and Tehran routes on March 18.

“We have expected more Iranian visitors will come to the country thanks to the air service opening,” he said, adding that new routes connecting Tehran and Bali would be opened should the Jakarta-Tehran route would be a success.

The Iran Cultural Week began today and will last until March 10. On the event, all visitors can enjoy Iranian traditional music performances, contemporary paintings and miniature calligraphy, films, and books on Iranian history, arts and culture. (ewd)
