Five young Indonesian community figures,
Anies Baswedan, Nia Dinata, Butet Manurung, Yeni Wahid and Silverius Oscar
Unggul were chosen as recipients of the 2009 Young Global Leader Honorees award,
from the World Economic Forum (WEF).
"We are very pleased with the achievement Paramadina University has attained
again, especially since last year when Pak Anies was the only Indonesian
to have ever received the prestigious reward among 100 top world
intellectuals," Paramadina University public relations and marketing director
Syafiq Basri Assegaff told Antara news on Wednesday.
Baswedan, a Ph.D graduate from the Political Science Department of the University of Northern
Illinois, is the rector of Paramadina University.
Other recipients of the award this year were film director Nia Dinata,
education and conservationist Butet Manurung, Wahid Institute director Yeni
Wahid and social activist Oscar Unggul.
The five recipients were among 230 honorees selected from around the world, including
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, golf player Tiger Woods, CNBC-India anchor
Shireen Bhan, YouTube CEO Chad Hurley, and Formula 1 racer Michael
Schumacher.
All honorees were selected by 31 world media leaders from a pool of 5,000 young
leaders below the age of 40.
The WEF had released the names of the winners, hailing from 71 countries, in
February.
"But the information has only reached us this month," Syafiq said.
