Indonesia has called off an April 1 soccer international against New Zealand in Jakarta, citing security concerns around upcoming legislative elections.
New Zealand Football said the Indonesian Football Association notified them Wednesday that the friendly international would not take place while safety concerns persisted.
New Zealand is due to play Thailand on March 28 and now is trying to arrange another match to replace the one planned in the Indonesian capital.
"Given the importance of the elections, Indonesia have taken a conservative approach to security and we're comfortable that the well-being of our players and staff has been safeguarded," New Zealand Football chief executive Michael Glading said.
Security around sporting teams was high on the agenda for administrators Wednesday. New Zealand Cricket canceled its proposed December tour to Pakistan earlier in the day in the wake of Tuesday's deadly attacks on the Sri Lankan cricket team's bus as it approached a stadium in Lahore, Pakistan, which left seven players, a coach and an official injured and killed six police officers and a driver.
