The Honorary Council of the House of
Representatives is set to investigate more legislators following the recent
arrest of lawmaker Abdul Hadi Djamal who allegedly received bribes, state news
agency Antara reports.
After a meeting with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Thursday,
the council's deputy chairman, Gayus Lumbuun, said that the council would take
further steps after it received reports from the KPK on any developments in the
case.
"We'll ask for clarification from all legislators [suspected of having an involvement],"
Gayus said, declining to name any of the lawmakers implicated.
The council, he said, had yet to receive reports on the dismissal of Abdul as a
legislator from the National Mandate Party (PAN).
Abdul's lawyer, Heri Perani, said his client had acted as a broker in an airport
construction project for the eastern part of Indonesia, conducted by the
Transportation Ministry.
Heri, however, did not elaborate the details of the role.
On Monday night, the KPK arrested Abdul and Darmawati Dahore, an official from
the ministry's Marine Transportation Directorate, after the legislator was
caught red-handed receiving an alleged bribe of US$80,000 and Rp 54 million ($
5,000) from the latter. (ewd)
