TIMIKA, Papua: A group of tribesmen armed with bows and arrows ran amok Wednesday in front of the Gorong Gorong Navy housing complex in Kaperoka subdistrict, Mimika Baru district, injuring three residents.
It remained unclear why they shot the victims, identified as Rusmiati, 25, Naming, 50, and Suardi, 27.
Rusmiati, the wife of a Naval officer, suffered a severe injury when an arrow pierced her lung through her back. She underwent surgery at Mimika General Hospital.
Mimika Police chief Adj. Snr. Comr. Godhelp C. Mansnembra said one of the attackers had been arrested, while the others were still at large.
"The wife of a Navy officer was one of the victims. I have coordinated with leaders of the Navy and Army to calm their officers down. We are still hunting for the other attackers." Mansnembra said. - JP
