A train crashed into a truck in Lamongan, East Java, killing the truck driver on early Thursday
morning, state railway operator PT KA reported Thursday.
The goods train was travelling from Surabaya to Jakarta at full speed when it hit the truck which had driven
onto the tracks at a crossing at around 3:00 a.m., said Sugeng Prijono, a
spokesman at PT KA's Surabaya
office.
Although the crossing boom gate had not fully closed when the truck came
through, the crossing siren had already sounded, Sugeng said.
"It's possible that the driver couldn't see clearly because it was drizzling at
the time," he said, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Another truck and passenger van were also damaged after the incident.
Sugeng said that the train, which had 16 carriages, managed to continue its journey
and the incident did not create any delays to the regular train services. (dre)
