Bribery suspect Abdul Hadi Djamal, a lawmaker of the National Mandate Party (PAN), told the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) he had received more than Rp 2 billion in alleged bribes in three installments, his lawyer said on Friday.

Haeri, Abdul's lawyer, told journalists at the KPK headquarters his client had admitted receiving bribes in three installments during a questioning session.

"He was arrested when he was taking the third installment. He was asked to take the money," Haeri said, without saying who told Abdul to take the bribe.

On Monday night, the KPK had arrested Abdul and Darmawati Dahore, an official from the Transportation Ministry's Marine Transportation Directorate, in Jakarta after the legislator was caught red-handed receiving an alleged bribe of US$90,000  (around Rp 1 billion) and Rp 54 million ($5,000) from the latter.

The KPK learned later the bribe had originated from businessman Honjto Kurniawan, a commissioner of PT Kurnia Jaya Wira Bakti, and was linked to the ministry's pier and airport construction projects in the eastern part of Indonesia.

Haeri said Abdul had received Rp 1 billion in the first installment, but did not say how much he received in the second.

Separately, KPK spokesman Johan Budi said the anti-graft body would have to find evidence to support the suspect's testimony.

Earlier on Friday, the KPK questioned Hontjo's driver Eddy and two employees at his company, Tatik and Patekai. (dre)
