JAKARTA: The city administration and South Korean government signed an agreement Saturday to apply a low carbon policy in an bid to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The MOU on climate change and mitigation emphasizes reducing carbon in fuel usage, waste and forestry management.

Governor Fauzi Bowo said the administration was looking to sell carbon credits by setting up a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project at the Bantar Gebang landfill east of Jakarta.

It is also seeking carbon credits for the Transjakarta public transportation system, he added.

"We will use eco-friendly fuel and arrange our waste management to keep the environment clean," Fauzi said after signing the MOU.

"We hope the implementation of a low carbon strategy can also boost the capital's economic growth," he added, as quoted by beritajakarta.com. -JP
