Prosecutors of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have accused Agus Syafiin Pane, an official at the Tanjung Priok Seaport excise and custom office in North Jakarta, of accepting bribe s and extorting money from businessmen between 2007 and 2008.

Reading its indictment at the Corruption Court on Thursday, the prosecutors claimed that Agus accepted a total of more than Rp 120 million (US$10,000) to speed up imports.

“He accepted Rp 250,000 for each container of goods,” prosecutor Dwi Aries told the court.

The KPK also claims that Agus distributed the money he accepted to at least 20 other employees at the office.

The defendant is facing up to 20 years in jail and/or Rp 1 billion in fines for violating article 12b of the 1999 corruption law on bribery. (dre)

Probably this is the first time custom and excise officials are publicly on trial for accepting bribes, for in the past they have always managed to escape from law enforcement. But not this time, as justice finally comes. We, Indonesian people, since long time very aware that that custom and excise officers are notorious for accepting bribes as their daily habit. I salute KPK!

More curropt costume and excise officials should be brought to justice if we want our country recover from economic recession sooner.

This is good news but do not stop with this guy - The cuctoms at the port and airport is full of corrupt officials.
Again - Good news.
