South Sumatra Police are investigating the whereabouts of a bronze Buddha statue that went missing from Balaputradewa Museum in the province capital Palembang. Several employees are being questioned.

“We questioned seven employees yesterday. We are going to question more today,” Sr. Comr. Abdul Gofur, spokesman of South Sumatra Police said, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com on Friday.

Abdul said that, among those questioned was museum head Syafei Wahid. “We have yet to name suspects in the case,” he added.

Abdul also said that the police were investigating the possibilities of the involvement of insiders in the case, as they found that the surveillance camera monitoring the statue, was not recording when the statue was taken.

The 17 x 7 x 7 centimeter bronze statue, which was once coated in gold, was reported missing on Monday. (dre)
