Performance to outweigh rank in city promotion

DENPASAR: The performance of municipal employees will be the major consideration in promoting them, replacing the current system that emphasizes ranks or grades, Denpasar Mayor IB Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra said Friday.
"Employees' tours of duty will be held continuously and gradually according to the city administration's needs," he said during the inauguration of 123 new city officials.
"We expect all positions will be manned by officials with the right skills to increase the overall work quality."
Rai emphasized that employees' career development would no longer depend mostly on ranking, but also on performance. -JP
