JAKARTA: Producer and director Mira Lesmana is moving right along with her project adapting Andrea Hirata’s tetralogy Laskar Pelangi (Rainbow Warriors).
After her success with the first film in the series, Laskar Pelangi, Mira is now working on producing the second film Sang Pemimpi (The Dreamer), an adaptation of the second installment of Hirata’s work, with the same title.
“We expected the film to be released in cinemas on December 17,” Mira was quoted as saying by Antara on Wednesday.
Mira said the nuances of the film, which explores the friendship between two characters, Ikal and Arai, would be different from the first story.
“The segment of the audience is also narrower because Ikal and Arai are teenagers now. It’s a teenager story now,” said Mira, who is known for producing leading Indonesian films such as Ada Apa Dengan Cinta (2000), Eliana, Eliana (2003), Rumah Ketujuh (2003), Gie (2005) and Garasi (2006).
The film will be directed by renowned director Riri Riza, who is now in Belitung for casting. Production will begin in June.
Meanwhile, said Mira, the script for the third film in the series, Edensor, has been prepared.
The fourth installment is Maryamah Karpov.
The movie adaptation of the first installment Laskar Pelangi was a box office hit at the end of 2008, with more than four million tickets sold. — JP
