JAKARTA: Dozens of Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) youth members staged a rally outside the General Elections Commission (KPU) Thursday, calling on the poll body to ensure legislative elections were transparent.
The Justice Youth Brotherhood Movement (Gema Keadilan) also urged election contenders to avoid smear campaigns ahead of the April 9 elections.
"The public is expecting clean and fair elections. But preparations for the polls have been marred by certain groups through their smear campaigns," the movement's secretary-general Yanuar said.
He was responding to accusations leveled at PKS legislator Rama Pratama, who also chairs the movement, in connection with a bribery scandal implicating dismissed National Mandate Party (PAN) legislator Abdul Hadi Djamal.-JP
