DENPASAR: The Mepapada ritual will be held Monday to purify animal offerings to be used during the Tawur Kesanga ritual, held one day before Nyepi.

Nyepi, or the Day of Silence, marks the Saka New Year according to the Balinese Hindu calendar; which this year falls on March 26.

"The Mepapada ritual will be held by Ida Pedanda Gede Pengiasan from Griya Beraban to purify the bakal caru (animal offerings)," Denpasar city spokesman, I Made Erwin Suryadharma, said Friday.

The animals to be sacrificed include water buffaloes, goats, celeng selem (black pigs), cows, swans, chickens, colored dogs and white ducks.

Monday's ritual will also include a performance of Sekaa Gong Kusuma Sari, a traditional Balinese music ensemble from Paang Klod hamlet in Penatih. - JP
