President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who is also chairman of the Democratic Party (PD)'s advisory board, had promised to help improve conditions in Bali should its residents support his reelection as president by voting for PD in the upcoming legislative elections.
"Bali would make greater progress and its security would be even more conducive. We will take actions against anyone wanting to disturb the security in Bali," Yudhoyono said at a campaign rally, as reported by Antara news on Sunday.
He added that overall greater security across the country would help Indonesia's tourism industry.
Yudhoyono had also asked the Balinese to listen to their conscience and common sense in voting for a political party in the upcoming legislative polls.
"The Democratic Party has proven successful in bringing about progress across the nation, including Bali," Yudhoyono, who was accompanied by his wife Ani Yudhoyono and son Edi Baskoro, argued.
"We will make Bali and Indonesia a safer and more peaceful, just and prosperous nation," he said.
Indonesia will hold legislative elections on April 9 with a campaigning period between March 16 to April 5.
The country's second direct presidential election will be held on July 8. (amr)
