JAKARTA: Businesswoman Artalyta Suryani who was convicted of paying a cash bribe of US$660,000 to senior prosecutor Urip Tri Gunawan, was transferred from the National Police headquarters' jail to the Pondok Bambu penitentiary for women on Monday afternoon.
"The verdict will be executed today," public prosecutor Sardjono Turin told tempointeraktif.com.
Artalyta was reported to have paid her Rp 250 million (US$21,000) fine and a court proceeding fee of Rp 20,000 last Wednesday.
A close ally of tycoon Sjamsul Nursalim, Artalyta was sentenced to five years in jail and fined Rp 250 million by the Corruption Court in July 2008.
On Friday, the Supreme Court rejected her appeal against her verdict, which was upheld by the High Corruption Court.
Meanwhile, Sjamsul, former owner of the now-defunct Bank Dagang Nasional Indonesia, was implicated in the embezzlement of Rp 28.4 trillion ($3.1 billion) in a loan scandal involving Bank Indonesia liquidity support (BLBI) funds. -JP
