Prosecutors have demanded two suspected terrorists from South Sumatra to each serve 15 years in prison for their alleged roles in plotting a terror attack on the Bedudel cafe in Bukittinggi, tempointeraktif.com reported on Tuesday.
During today's session at South Jakarta District Court, prosecutor Totok Prabowo said Abdurrahman Taib and Ki Agus Muhammad Toni had planned an attack on the cafe in 2007.
“The Taib group had placed a plastic bomb at the cafe but had cancelled the attack after seeing some women wearing headscarves at the cafe,” Totok said.
Prosecutors also suspect Taib was the mastermind behind the murder of clergyman Dago Simamora in 2007, he said.
In July 2008, police arrested both defendants during a raid on a house in Palembang. During the raid police also found and confiscated eight partially assembled bombs, 13 fully built bombs and 50 kilograms of explosives.
Police suspect the defendants have ties with Singapore's most wanted man, Mas Slamet Kastari, who reportedly escaped prison in Singapore and left the country. (ewd)
