DENPASAR: The Denpasar office of Bank Indonesia said Monday there were no signs the circulation of counterfeit money was increasing in Bali ahead of the April 9 legislative elections.

The regional office deputy head, Wijoyo Santoso, said his office only recorded counterfeit bills valued at Rp 39.8 million over the last three months, a 36.6 percent decline from the Rp 62.8 million recorded in the same period last year.

"There is nothing to indicate an increase in the distribution of fake money," he said.

The value of counterfeit money distributed in Bali increased since 2003 but eventually dropped last year. - JP
