A Bank Mandiri Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) containing Rp 368 million (US$32,000), located on the Serang-Jakarta highway in Kibin district in Serang, Banten, was stolen early Thursday morning.

Police suspect that the machine, one of two at the location, was stolen by a syndicate specializing in stealing older model ATMs.

“The other machine was a newer one. It seemed to be a professional job. They took the surveillance camera too,” Cikande Police Chief Adj. Comr. Budhi Batara said, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Budhi said the police believe the crime was comitted by more than three people, considering the weight of the machine.

Police suspect that the crime was comitted at around 3 a.m. The suspects used a crowbar and a reinforced steel bar to steal the machine.

Budhi said there were no witnesses to the crime. (dre)
