Azizman Saad of the hospital's birdflu handling team told state news agency Antara that Wahyu had trouble breathing and lost consciousness before dying.

He said that six doctors worked to save the boy's life. Wahyu was pronounced dead at around 02:00 a.m..

Azizman said that the patient's condition was relatively stable on Wednesday morning, but quickly deteriorated during the evening.

Wahyu was admitted as a birdflu suspect last Friday, after being treated at another hospital for six days.

Azizman said the hospital has yet to announce whether the boy died of birdflu, as it is still waiting for the result of nasal and throat swab tests form the Health Ministry's laboratory in Jakarta. (dre)

It sounds like another case of Tamiflu resistance.
How much longer will Indonesia participate in the clinical trial of Tamiflu run by the WHO, and sponsored by Roche? It's time bird flu victims and their families are given a better chance. Why not treat with the alternatives that have already passed safety and tolerability trials but may not be on the market yet. Relenza, iv peramivir, iv zanamivir, and CS-8958 should be made available.
Is the WHO waiting for the 5 million courses of Tamiflu it was given by Roche to be used up before moving on to an alternative?
