DENPASAR:As many as 10,000 die-hard supporters of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) are expected to turn up to the party's first open campaign in Bali on Sunday, with former president Megawati Soekarnoputri attending as the main campaigner, says a party executive.
The campaign will be held at the Kayubihi soccer field in Bangli, which - along with Tabanan regency - is the party's stronghold in the province.
"We will prioritize *the transport of* supporters from Bangli regency, so as not to create prolonged traffic jams.
However, it is possible supporters from other regencies will flock to Bangli," the chairman of the PDI-P's campaign team, Wayan Koster, said Friday. Governor Made Mangku Pastika, who won the gubernatorial election with the PDI-P's political support last year, will also be campaigning for the party.
"We only have Rp 150 million to fund the campaign, including building the stage, providing meals and entertainment," he said.
The PDI-P is hoping to win 57.5 to 60 percent of the votes in the upcoming legislative elections.
On Sunday, a total of five political parties are scheduled to hold open campaigns around the island. - JP
