The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned legislator Jhonny Allen for questioning over his alleged role in a bribery scandal which has already seen another lawmaker, Abdul Hadi Djamal, detained as a suspect for his involvement.
"We sent a summons letter this week," KPK spokesman Johan Budi said Friday.
He said Jhonny, a lawmaker with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's Democratic Party, would be questioned as a witness in the case.
Abdul was caught red-handed by the KPK earlier this month receiving US$90,000 and Rp 54 million ($4,500) in alleged bribes from Darmawati Dareho, a Transportation Ministry official.
The money was allegedly provided by businessman Hontjo Kurniawan, who had previously given Rp 3 billion to Abdul, to ensure his company PT Kurnia Jaya Wirabhakti won a pier and airport development project in eastern Indonesia.
Abdul, from the National Mandate Party (PAN), was a member of the House Commission V for transportation and housing affairs overseeing a 100 billion budget allocation for the project.
During KPK questioning, Abdul said the budget was part of the Rp 10.2 trillion stimulus fund provided for the Transportation Ministry, which afterward was increased by the House's budgeting committee to Rp 12.2 trillion.
The discussion to increase the funding took place at a Jakarta hotel not long after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's visit to Indonesia.
Abdul named Rama Pratama from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and Jhonny Allen as two lawmakers who attended the meeting.
Rama is a member of the House's budgeting committee while Jhonny is committee deputy chairman.
Abdul said Anggito Abimanyu, the head of fiscal policy at the Finance Ministry, was also present.
The idea to increase the funding to Rp 12.2 trillion, Abdul said, came from Rama and the committee head.
Abdul said the scandal initially kicked off when Hontjo approached him and Jhonny Allen about the recommendations made by Transportation Ministry officials to increase funding.
