The death toll from Friday's Situ Gintung dam disaster has reached 97, as
seven more bodies were recovered from the mud by volunteers on Sunday.
However, up to 102 residents were still missing, South
Tangerang mayor H. Soleh said Sunday.
Family members and relatives seeking lost loved ones should contact Fatmawati
hospital in South Jakarta, Soleh said.
Almost 400 refugees from the flash flood have been relocated to various
locations, including the Muhammadiyah
University's Faculty of
Medicine campus.
As for structural damage, 319 houses were reportedly damaged.
Earlier, Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah said the heads of each affected household
would receive at least Rp 5 million in compensation.
An emergency search and rescue team based at Muhammadiyah University Jakarta
(UMJ) also said 100 residents were still missing, tempointeraktif.com
reported Sunday.
"The count was based on the reports of local residents ... For many of the bodies
found it is unclear which neighborhood unit they were from," the search
and rescue coordinator Rahmat Salam said.
More than 500 people have volunteered to help evacuate victims in the aftermath
of the deadly collapse of the Situ Gintung sluice gate and embankment in
Cireundeu, Tangerang.
The team comprises members of the national Search and Rescue (SAR) team, BNPN, the
Gegana bomb squad, the Jakarta Health Agency, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), police,
college students and members of the public.
The dam collapse, which was apparently triggered by heavy rains on Thursday evening,
had flatted 319 homes, schools and part of a university campus. (amr)
