An enquiry request lodged by parent of slain student David Widjaja was on Wednesday rejected by the National Police's detective and crime unit, tempointeraktif.com reported.
"That inquest should've been addressed to the Singapore Police," National Police spokesman Abu Bakar Nataprawira said, referring to Hartanto Widjaja's recent inquest request.
He said the National Police would not be able to launch any investigation into the case as the death had occurred in Singapore.
"Even if we had approved of the inquest, the police would not have been able to do anything," Nataprawira argued.
Hartanto's son, David, an Indonesian student at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU), had allegedly committed suicide after stabbing Associate Professor Chan Kap Luk early last month.
The sophomore, 21, fell to his death from the fourth floor of an NTU building.
David's parents have since dismissed these claims of suicide, saying their son had no reason to kill himself. (amr)
