Search and rescue workers uncovered the decayed body of a man
under garbage and debris in Pesanggrahan on Wednesday morning, raising the
death toll to 100 from last week's Situ Gintung dam collapse in Cireundeu,
Tangerang.
No reports were made of the man's identity.
"The body was taken to Fatmawati Hospital (South Jakarta),"
said Faidul Umar, an officer at the police temporary coordination post in Cireundeu,
as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Rescue workers had found the body at around 11:30, while cleaning up garbage
and debris from the flood.
Search efforts were being focused along the river and waterways near the site
of the collapsed Situ Gintung dam, disaster management team chief Rahmat Sahlah
said.
"We predict there may still be many bodies buried here," Rahmat said.
A 70-year-old sluice gate and its reinforcing wall on the lake dam collapsed on
Friday following heavy rains, causing a flash flood that decimated 319 houses
in the crowded neighborhood below. (dre)
